Visit the Lighthouse

A great destination spot halfway between Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton is the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse. It is located on the northern side of the inlet, right where the Florida Reef ends.

This lighthouse was built in 1903 after getting rejected for nearly 17 years. Over the years since the lighthouse was built, it has been maintained by the lightkeepers. They have worked hard to minimize shipwrecks, fires, and invasions from wars.

Currently, the lighthouse runs on its own, and the lightkeepers headquarters has now turned into a visitation center. It is surrounded by water on three sides and is struggling to stand. The coastal erosion is slowly taking over the ground that this lighthouse is standing on. Tours and visitations are limited to only a few times a year through the preservation society.

Check out this lighthouse and its views of the ocean and reef before it's too late.
