In 1989, a group of students formed Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAFE) after a fellow classmate passed away off-campus. This is a mission to ensure student safety and promote a secure environment at school. Since this organization was created at West Charlotte H.S. in 1989, it has grown to be a national nonprofit with over 230,000 members in 48 states and 7 countries.
