Education

Students in Quail Hollow are assigned to the Charlotte Mecklenburg School District. This neighborhood is zoned for Huntingtowne Farms Elementary, Smithfield Elementary, Carmel Middle School, Quail Hollow Middle School, and South Mecklenburg High School.

South Mecklenburg High School is one of the top high schools in the state. When reviewing test scores, graduation rates, and student progress, it is no surprise that this school is ranked the 21st best high school in North Carolina by U.S. News. In addition to having excellent academics, this school has achieved State Championship titles in football, baseball, and swimming. Programs offered at this school include JROTC, advanced studies & talent development, International Baccalaureate (IB), driver’s education, extended learning programs, and more!

Parks and Recreation

Huntingtowne Farms is a 23-acre park including a basketball court, multi-purpose field, outdoor shelter, ballfield, community garden, playground, and 2 tennis courts. Park Road Park is a larger 72-acre property featuring tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoe pits, baseball fields, softball fields, volleyball courts, picnic shelters, concession stands, walking trails, and an 11-acre lake with a pier. In 2014, over 500 students and community members gathered for the dedication of the park’s playground. Along with being a recreational resource for the town, the playground also serves as a tribute and memorial for the Sandy Hook Elementary victims.

The Starclaire Swim Club is a neighborhood pool that was established in 1961. In addition to being a public community pool, it is also home of the Dolphins Swim Team. The Club also holds movie nights, where families can enjoy a movie in the pool under the stars. The movies get projected onto a wall outside of the pool after sunset!

The Harris YMCA is a local community center for residents to have fun and stay active. The facility includes swimming pools, fitness classes, gymnasiums, athletic fields, childcare, dance studios, an outdoor chapel, sauna, gymnastics center, and an outdoor playground.

The SouthPark mall also includes a play area with entertaining activities for families. For a refreshing break from shopping, you can enjoy a meal at one of the mall’s delicious restaurants. You can grab Italian at The California Pizza Kitchen, have a sandwich at Arthur’s, make a quick stop at Chipotle, or try a menu item at the world-famous Cheesecake Factory. Since it opened in 1970, the mall has become a large tourist attraction and is one of the most luxury shopping destinations in the South.
